Artisan Made Writing Instruments Tampa FL
At Write Turnz we hand craft Artisan Made writing instruments. Our goal is to create functional art that tells a story or captures a moment in time. This event can be personal, a historical event or even a marker in time. We use many materials that have been reclaimed, repurposed, or salvaged from important, historic parts of time, capture the beauty in natural burls or sustainably harvested exotic woods.
We find these materials have the ultimate abundance of nature’s pure beauty, as well as delicate characteristics that give each piece its own exquisite individuality.
2024 Black Pen Society
At precisely 8:00 PM on August 4, 2024, the Grand Poobah officially commenced the annual meeting of the Black Pen Society. The gathering featured the unveiling of this year’s commemorative pin, accompanied by a recounting of the story and symbolism behind its design.
In a moment of levity, a minor mishap turned memorable: the Grand Poobah, in an unusual lapse, had forgotten his signature fez. Quick to improvise, several members crafted a makeshift fez from a flowerpot adorned with artificial greenery, much to the amusement of the attendees.
A special announcement followed—the 2024 Black Pen edition will be crafted by Jason Olson of Write Turnz. Production is already underway, and these exclusive pens will be available in the near future.

What Our Clients Say
Jason Olson’s original pens are some of my personal favorite artisan-made creations. He has an excellent eye for aesthetics and produces his pens using the finest (and often very rare) materials. The handcrafted metal furniture he makes is particularly outstanding. While Jason’s pens are intended to tell stories, he is very open to collaboration with his customers, and is wonderful to work with.
About Jason
Jason M. Olson creates artisan crafted handwriting tools with wonderful skill, attention to detail, all fastened by amazing stories involving the elements of each piece.
She….LOVES!!!….the pen. This went over very well. She knew it was coming but to see it in hand… the craftsmanship is amazing. The history of the wood. The details!!! The fit and finish are just amazing. It is definitely one of the nicest pens I’ve held in person. It will also get used a lot! No storage for this one. It will be used as the tool it was meant to be and will document her memories for years to come.

Owl
Based on A.A. Milne’s stories set in the 100 Acre Wood, this pen is inspired by Owl and fittingly named. Using a once off casting with Owl’s main body colors and a piece of spalted Beech from the 100 Acre Wood in England, this pen turns heads with subtle beauty.
The hand engraved copper trim mimics an actual wing, while the finial rounds out the ensemble with an owl’s face. The copper will patina in time and have a wonderful glow that can be managed with oils from ones hand or a simple silver clothe. To coordinate with the copper trim, a rose gold nib was used in all the pens.
Project Musk Ox
Working with the Native Alaskan People we have been able to procure some of their excess Musk Ox horn. The horn has an amazing grain and texture, but is smooth as silk and never gets cold.
A variety of colors were made and each has a hand forged Damascus clip to make those colors really pop.
FrankenPen 4.0
What does the 4.0 in the name stand for? This is the fourth annual edition of the FrankenPen series. The 2022 pen went back to the roots of the design. How many different materials and textures can be combined in an interesting and pleasing form?
Let’s start with the furniture, nickel silver, titanium, mokume gene, stainless steel, sterling silver and copper. The balance is hand made blue jean micarta, in house resin, ceboplast and a Juma section.
Black Pen Society ’22
Our second year crafting the yearly pen for the Black Pen Society, we took a different direction, shapely and subtle. The cabochon’s are based on the years member only pin, featuring a black crow. The only real color is the copper furniture, which will patina over time, but can be brightened by oils in your hand or a simple silver clothe.
The shape of the body feels excellent in the hand, while the matte finish keeps the pen inline with the principles of the Black Pen Society, no color. This series utilized a rose gold plated steel nib.
